ABOUT
Alissa Mellis-Gruba is a visual artist living in Asheville, NC. She grew up outside Detroit, Michigan receiving a BFA from The College of Creative Studies. She draws inspiration from the mountains and forests capturing both the intricate details of nature and the serene expansiveness of the landscape.
Working across painting, printmaking, and sculpture, Alissa has recently focused on monotypes—a process that merges painting with printmaking. A composition is painted onto a smooth surface and then transferred to paper under the pressure of a press, creating a singular image where brushwork, linework, and pigment blend in unexpected ways. This process allows for a unique interplay between control and spontaneity, echoing the organic complexity of nature.
