are a unique printmaking technique where a single, one of a kind, print is created by transferring paint or ink from a smooth surface (like glass, plexiglass, or metal) to paper. This can be done by using a press or manually rubbing with a spoon or brayer. Monotypes are essentially a painting printed onto paper. There is great freedom of expression and the ability to create unique textures and marks when painting on a nonporous surface.
